Current Research & Trends in Pre-school Education

This course introduces students to critical research issues in early childhood. Emphasis will be given to evaluating the conceptual and methodological assumptions underlying research in this area.

Innovation and Changes in Education Systems
15 hours
 
Students will gain an understanding about the changes in Singapore's education system from structured classroom teaching to creative thinking and innovation curriculum.

Children With Exceptional Needs

15 hours

 

Students will have an understanding of planning an appropriate learning environment for children with disabilities. The importance of early intervention, inclusion and mainstreaming will be discussed.
 

Unit 4

Designing, Evaluation & Assessing the Pre-School Programme

This unit provides an understanding of human development from infancy to adolescence as it occurs within a variety of social contexts.
 
Unit 5
 
Curriculum Designing & Organising the Physical Environment
30 hours
 
Students will be able to design the pre-School curriculum from 0-8 years in all areas of development, ie. social, emotional, intellectual, physical. They will be able to implement and develop a positive learning environment in the centre.
 

Unit 6

 
Play & Project Approach in Early Childhood Education
15 hours

 

 
Students will be able to develop knowledge of project-based learning as an in-depth investigation of real world topics worthy of children's attention and effort. They will be able to implement the Project Approach successfully in the centre.
 

Unit 7

 
Information Technology in Education
15 hours
 

Students will learn to develop and understanding of instructional integration and how a variety of instructional concepts, skill, tactics and strategies can be simultaneously and endlessly integrated in the design of a powerful learning environment.

 

Unit 8

 
Programme Integration in the Pre-School Classroom
30 hours
 
Students will learn to explore the principles and practices in programme integration. As a foundation for lesson and curriculum design, students will examine personal experiences, professional practice and current research encompassing the evolving nature of this field.
