Research Methodologies and Strategies

Students will be introduced to practices in educational research. They will be able to identify, develop, implement and report on a manageable and appropriate research project/question.
 
Unit 10
 
Designing & Implementing Action Research
30 hours
 
Students will focus on concepts & skills involved in designing research projects, a range of research methodologies and approaches that underline them. Students are expected to frame a clear research question and designing an independent research project.

Management & Administration of Pre-School

Students will examine management structures found in early childhood settings and key areas of accountability for teachers, children, parents, government and other agencies. They will investigate the influence of external and internal factors on the management of early childhood settings
 

Unit 12

Licensing, Policies and Operational Issues
30 hours
 
Students will develop knowledge of investigating the interpersonal and group dynamics of management of childcare services and examine the impact of government licensing policies and the standard of service delivery upon the management and operation of childcare centres.
 
Unit 13
 
Staff Development, Supervision and Management
30 hours
 
Students will develop knowledge of the impact of adults in early childhood programmes. They will understand the trends and issues focusing on professional qualifications for improving the quality of all personnel.
 

Unit 14

 
Partnership, Networking and Professional Growth
30 hours

 

Students will develop knowledge of working with parents and know the importance of creating a friendly atmosphere yet retaining an appropriate distance. Students will know the importance of collaborating with parents and referral agencies when managing difficult children.

Leadership Style

Students will be taught to identify concepts of leadership as part of their professional role as centre Supervisor/Principals. They will understand personal characteristics, traits, style, behaviour and strategies in line with the nature of the task and work culture.

Students will be able to develop knowledge, skills and professional attitudes needed in heading pre-school centres. They will be given an extended opportunitiy to develop a realistic and comprehensive understanding of the complexity of teachering and to integrate theory with practices.
