This course assists students to develop knowledge and examine the theoretical frameworks that underpin early childhood philosophy and practices. The students will analyse how particular theoretical frameworks and approaches influence the teaching and learning that occurs in early childhood classrooms. Students will examine programs for pre-school aged children from 0 to 8 years, which reflect particular theoretical frameworks. Students will develop the skills to plan, implement and evaluate pre-school programs.

This course assists students to develop knowledge and examine the theory, basic research, interactive process and methodology of the cooperative learning approach for building a collaborative conducive physical learning environment. The content, teaching process and strategies in organising the environment will be focused. Student will be able to design the preschool curriculum from 0-8 years in all areas of development (social/ emotional/ intellectual/ physical). They will be able to implement and develop the process of establishing a positive learning environment in the centre. Students will be able to cater to the foundation for learning and children’s development.

Play and Project Approach in Early Childhood Education

This course assists students to understand the nature of play in pre-school children and its role in a child’s learning and development. Students will be able to develop knowledge of a project-based learning as an in-depth investigation of real-world topics worthy of children’s attention and effort. Students will have an understanding that Project Approach is not unstructured and there is a complex but flexible framework with features that characterise the teaching-learning interaction. Students will be able to implement the Project Approach successfully.

This course assists students to explore the principles and practices in program integration. As foundation for lesson and curriculum design, students will examine personal experience, professional practice and current research encompassing the evolving nature
of the field. Including integrated curriculum,
environmental awareness, aesthetics and creative expressions, self and social awareness (including health awareness), and motor skills development, alternating perspectives on teaching and learning; approaches to community building, and inclusion of diverse learners; assessment and evaluation strategies; management and safety issues and utilization of technology.

This course assists students to develop knowledge and skills related to the key learning areas of Safety, Health and Nutrition. From this basis, students will develop concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to plan effective learning experiences in Safety, Health and Nutrition.
